It’s our extreme pleasure to announce the first annual JRubyConf, to take place Sunday, November 22nd, immediately following RubyConf 2009! We’ve been working on putting this together for a little while now, and it’s finally time to share.
The JRuby project has been making incredible progress and gaining popularity; at the same time, the community has been growing like crazy. At this stage, we think JRuby definitely needs a conference of its own. The roster will be highly technical, cutting edge, and will feature JRuby experts from all over the globe.
Oh! I think I may have forgotten to mention the best part: JRubyConf will be free!
We’re working hard to put the final touches on a great lineup, and we’ll have those details for you all in a few days, but for now, let’s talk about some of the highlights: the entire JRuby Core Team will be on hand (Charlie Nutter, Thomas Enebo, Nick Sieger and Ola Bini), and in addition to delivering a talk or two, they will be sitting on a panel for a full Q&A session. We’ve got talks on JRuby on Rails, JRuby on Google App Engine, and a peek at production apps inside and outside the Enterprise using JRuby today.
The event will take place in the same location as RubyConf, so no hotel changes needed. A huge thank you to our generous partners and sponsors at EdgeCase and Thoughtworks Studios, who are helping to fund JRubyConf, and who place a vote of confidence for JRuby every day when they use it to build tools and apps for their clients.
If you’d like to join us, be sure to register for a ticket at the JRubyConf website; the site is live, and tickets will go on sale as soon as RubyConf registration opens (though, please note that a ticket to one does not get you a seat at the other—each requires a separate registration). Follow @engineyard and @jruby on Twitter to keep up with the latest news and be notified when registration opens.
See you there!

For free. That's just spectacular!
Not a JRuby user myself, just felt you needed some kudos for this one :)
Thanks Druiden! Hope you can make it out to the show.
Will you also be considering sessions on JRuby aware tools like JXInsight? http://williamlouth.wordpress.com/2009/08/05/the-...
Hi William,
There's honestly significantly more interest in topics than there are session slots available. We're working on coming up with the best balance :) Thanks for the suggestion!
