Who Needs Photoshop? Image Manipulation in Ruby
Cory Forsyth (Brooklyn, NY)
Saturday, March 28, 2009What sort of creative stuff can you do with Ruby when paired with image manipulation libraries like RMagick, and image recognition libraries like Camellia? Why would you want to use Ruby to do this and not something like Photoshop? In this talk I’ll look at using these tools to do things like spectrum analysis of images, algorithmically generating really large composite images, stitching images together into movies, frame-by-frame processing of movies, image recognition, and more. The aim is to get people’s creative juices flowing and thinking about using ruby in the imaging world to do more interesting things than thumbnail generation and captcha generation.
