Classic
The Classic Plan is the best way to get started hosting your application on the Engine Yard Private Cloud. This is the most common setup for existing businesses that are starting a new Ruby on Rails project and want the benefits of a fully-managed private cloud.
The Classic Plan comes with 2 production and 1 staging slices. Per slice resources include 1 vCPU, 768MB RAM, 10GB of local storage and 45GB of GFS. Additional production slices are optional.
If you are searching for a more cost-effective Rails hosting solution, consider the Engine Yard Flex Plan. The Flex Plan offers an unlimited number of Linux operating system instances powered by commercial compute clouds, and offers metered pricing beyond a minimum monthly usage fee of $349 per month.
Fractional
The Fractional Plan is the next step up from Classic on the Private Cloud. If you are running a successful service with growing traffic and don’t want variability in performance, you will want the Fractional Plan. Businesses that have special data retention requirements, such as HIPAA, financial compliance,or dedicated databases, will also want to consider this option. With Fractional, you can ensure more consistent performance which is only possible in this environment.
Fractional Plan slices are more powerful, with per slice resources of 2 vCPUs, 1536MB RAM, 10GB of local storage and 70GB of GFS. A staging slice for Fractional is the same size as a Classic slice—1vCPU and 768MB RAM. Fractional also comes standard with a 2-slice dedicated database cluster, including master and replica database slices and RAID5 dedicated disks with 3 disks per RAID array. Larger dedicated database clusters are optional.
Dedicated
If you are running a large-scale Rails application (approximately 1 million monthly unique visitors on a mid-complexity application), having your own dedicated cluster may be the right call. With the Dedicated Plan, we spec your needs and then build a fully dedicated cluster just for your applications. You’ll have your own load balancers, switches and other hardware in this environment. Dedicated space and power guarantee much higher future expandability without disruption.
