An Engine Yard Fractional Cluster provides physically segregated dedicated database and disk storage resource for applications on the Engine Yard Private Cloud. If you are running a successful service with growing traffic and don’t want variability in I/O performance, you should consider a Fractional Cluster. Businesses with special data retention requirements, such as HIPAA, financial compliance,or dedicated databases, will also want to consider this option. With a Fractional Cluster, you can ensure more consistent performance.

The basic configuration for a Fractional Cluster is 3 high-capacity production servers, 1 staging server and a dedicated database cluster. Dedicated database clusters include master and replica databases and RAID5 dedicated disks, with 3 disks per RAID array. Larger dedicated database clusters are available as an upgrade.
